Are NinjaTrader and Tradovate the same broker?

NinjaTrader and Tradovate use the same futures broker: both accounts are cleared by NinjaTrader Clearing, LLC, a CFTC-registered futures commission merchant and NFA member under NFA ID 0309379. NinjaTrader's site says this entity does business as NinjaTrader, Kraken Derivatives US and Tradovate, and Tradovate's footer places it under NinjaTrader Group, LLC, which announced on January 12, 2022 that it had acquired Tradovate Holdings. NinjaTrader, LLC builds the software, while the clearing entity holds client funds and clears trades. Tradovate also states that its credentials open NinjaTrader, described as one login for two platforms. The two vendors therefore differ in platform and tools, not in who holds your money. According to the risk disclosure on Tradovate's site, funds at a futures commission merchant are not protected by insurance in an FCM bankruptcy, nor by SIPC. All details come from the vendors' own pages and were last checked in October 2026.

Which costs less, NinjaTrader or Tradovate?

NinjaTrader and Tradovate cost the same: both list a Free plan at $0 per month, a Monthly plan at $99 per month and a Lifetime plan at $1,499, with per-side commissions for standard contracts of $1.29, $0.99 and $0.59. NinjaTrader's pricing page lists no annual or discounted plan, while Tradovate lets the Lifetime plan be paid in four installments of $499. The trials differ. NinjaTrader states that charting, backtesting and simulated trading are free with no time limit, plus a 14-day trial of live streaming data. Tradovate offers a two-week trial that needs no payment method; afterwards the platform shows delayed data and blocks trading until a live account is funded, and CME simulation then needs a $12.95 per month Extended Simulation Membership. Both charge a $35 inactivity fee on Free plans with no live trade in 30 days. Tradovate's About page still describes commission-free trading for a flat price, which conflicts with its own Pricing page. Figures were last checked in October 2026.

NinjaTrader and Tradovate show identical all-in rates for E-mini S&P 500 futures. On the Monthly plan, ES costs $2.57 per contract per side and MES $0.84, according to each vendor's commissions page, with a schedule dated August 14, 2026 and updated quarterly. The Lifetime plan brings ES to $2.17 and MES to $0.64, and the Free plan is $2.87 and $0.94. Each figure combines exchange and NFA fees ($1.39 for ES, $0.36 for MES), the $0.19 clearing fee and the plan commission. Both vendors quote rates per side, so a round turn is double. How much does market data cost on NinjaTrader and Tradovate?

NinjaTrader and Tradovate charge the same for CME Group Level I data: $12 per month for a bundle of CME, CBOT, NYMEX and COMEX, or $4 per exchange, for non-professional users. Both also say a funded account receives Level I CME Group and EUREX data free, and the account must stay funded to keep it. At Level II, NinjaTrader lists $48 for the bundle or $16 per exchange. Tradovate's help center gives $16 per exchange but contradicts itself on the bundle: $48 in its Account & Exchange Fees article and $41 in its market data subscription article. Professional CME data costs $156 per month per exchange on NinjaTrader and on Tradovate's help page. Without a subscription Tradovate shows data delayed by ten minutes, and its subscriptions renew on the 1st of every month without proration. Tradovate's Pricing page itself publishes no data fee schedule; the figures sit in its help center. Data prices were last checked in October 2026.

Does NinjaTrader run on Mac, and how do the platforms differ?

NinjaTrader's desktop platform runs on Windows only, while Tradovate is cloud-based with desktop apps for Windows and Mac. NinjaTrader's minimum for the desktop version is 64-bit Windows 11 or Windows Server 2016 or later with Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8; its Web version runs in any PC or Mac browser, and its mobile app runs on iPhone and Android. Tradovate adds an iPad app and states that live orders are held at the exchange or server-side, never on your device. The platforms diverge on scripting: NinjaScript uses standard C# syntax, while Tradovate's custom indicators are coded in JavaScript and run in simulation and Market Replay. Both mobile apps list 40+ built-in indicators. All plans on both vendors include access to NinjaTrader Desktop, Web and Mobile, and a Tradovate login also opens NinjaTrader, so a Mac user can start on Tradovate and still use NinjaTrader's web version. Which has backtesting and Market Replay, NinjaTrader or Tradovate?

NinjaTrader has a strategy backtesting tool, and Tradovate's platform page does not describe one. NinjaTrader's Strategy Analyzer backtests NinjaScript strategies against historical data, and Strategy Builder generates strategies without coding. Tradovate describes Market Replay with simulated trading instead, at up to 4x speed with full depth of market. NinjaTrader's Market Replay plays recorded tick data at up to 1,000x speed, going back 90 days. Neither vendor lists copy trading: none was found on NinjaTrader's pages, and Tradovate offers Group Trade, which places one order across several accounts in user-defined groups. Tradovate also lists a Daily Loss Limit that liquidates and locks the account when the set limit is reached, and NinjaTrader lists order flow tools including volumetric bars, cumulative delta and volume profile. Both include 24×5 technical support and a 24-hour emergency trade desk on all plans. Feature lists come from the vendors' own pages and were last checked in October 2026.
